Kristen Andrushko, a JCU student at John Carroll University speaks about her experience in the JCU at Vatican City Study Abroad Program 2013 in Rome and her experience as an intern with Aleteia.com

unnamedStudying abroad was one of the best decisions I have made in my life thus far. I have always been adventurous and interested in traveling, which I was able to do while studying abroad in Italy. I was able to visit, experience, and learn about 8 other countries and travel to many Italian cities. For me, traveling teaches me the most because it allows me to see and experience what I am being taught.

Also, while studying abroad in Rome, I was given the opportunity to do an internship. I was an assistant journalist and communications intern at Aleteia, an online news agency. This was a great hands-on learning experience for me in the field of journalism. I transcribed interviews, researched and wrote questions for interviews, re-posted articles, and published articles. Re-posting articles taught me how to come up with a catchy title and subtitle, abilities which are vital to know in the industries I am pursuing, event planning, marketing, and advertising. Aleteia gave me many opportunities that I would not have had if I did not study abroad. I was able to work in an International environment and develop skills that otherwise I would not have the opportunity to experience. I truly enjoyed researching the events, writing articles and then publishing them on Aleteia’s website.

I loved studying abroad and working with Aleteia.
